Reporting progress of activities, milestones, and deliverables
The current timing and progress of projects, activities (work packages, tasks), milestones, and deliverables is displayed as a completion bar (with % and status) at various places, wherever projects, activities, milestones, and deliverables are shown.

The progress of projects, activities (work packages, tasks), milestones, and deliverables is reported as part of status updates in the "Updates" tab in each project's, activity's, milestone's, or deliverable's sidebar:

Note:
- Before reporting progress, you must firstly create projects and activities, as well as milestones and deliverables in the "Workplan" section.
- To report progress of a project, activity, milestone, or deliverable, you must have at least Edit access right to this item (see "Roles, access levels, and access rights").
- Additionally, make sure that the item is not locked, reporting is enabled, and you are viewing the workspace version in the active mode.
Follow the instructions below on how to report a status update on projects, activities (work packages, tasks), milestones, and deliverables.
- 1
-
Click Workplan in the Home menu. This will open the "Workplan" section.
- 2
-
Click on the project/activity/milestone/deliverable that you would like to report on or click on its "Edit" icon.

- 3
-
A sidebar for this project/activity/milestone/deliverable will appear. Select the "Updates" tab.

- 4
-
Click +Add Update at the bottom of the sidebar.

- 5
-
The "Update" sidebar will appear, where you can provide the details about the status and current progress of the project, activity, milestone, or deliverable:

- Completion (%): Enter the completion in % (can also be set with the slider). This value is stored for the specific project, activity, milestone, or deliverable and report date. For parent items, completion is automatically calculated from their children based on planned effort weighting or simple averaging.
- Reporting Date: Set the reporting date (if you see the message Reporting deactivated until 01.04.21, then reporting of status updates before this date has been disabled)
- Status: Set the status (the statuses are provided by the workspace template that you selected during the workspace creation, but you can customise them in the Customization settings)
- Priority: Set the current priority ("Normal" priority is the default)
- Description (optional): Enter a short update description
- Actual Start: Set the actual or forecast start date of the project or activity (only available for projects and activities)
- Actual Duration: Set the actual or forecast duration (only available for projects and activities)
- Due Date: Set the actual or forecast due date of the milestones or deliverable (only available for milestones and deliverables)
Manual completion entries override automatic calculations for that level and propagate upward to parent items. Only the most recent status report for each item is used in calculations. Learn how EMDESK calculates completion across levels.
The "Updates" tab for projects and activities will automatically suggest an update report with calculated status and completion percentage based on their sub-activities' latest updates. This automatic calculation uses planned effort weighting or simple averaging, but only appears when the parent project or activity's updates are older than the sub-activities' updates. This allows you to overwrite the calculated status with a more recent manual update on the parent item.
