Why are cost figures blurred in Budget or Expenses?

Some figures in Budget or Expenses appear blurred, and the total at the bottom of the column is blurred too. Other rows in the same table are readable.

This is not a display error. It means that a participant's personnel cost rates are hidden from you.

Why this happens

Each participant has a setting called Hide personnel cost rates in its Financial profile. When it is switched on, EMDESK hides that participant's financial figures from every user who only has Read access to the participant. Users with Edit or Manage access see the figures as usual.

What is hidden

  • In Budget and Expenses: the personnel cost rate, direct costs, indirect costs, total costs and funding of every entry that uses one of this participant's rates.
  • The column totals, because a total would reveal the hidden values.
  • In the participant's Financial profile: the rate values, shown as XXX.

Entries that don't use a personnel cost rate, such as travel or equipment, stay readable. That is why only part of the table looks affected.

If you export the table, the hidden columns are empty in the file.

What to do

If you need these figures, ask a workspace administrator or manager to give you Edit access to the participant, or to switch the setting off.

To switch it off, you need Edit or Manage access to the participant:

  1. Open Participants in the main menu and click the participant.
  2. Go to the Financial profile tab.
  3. Switch Hide personnel cost rates off.
