Mailing Lists and no-reply Sender Address
Why do EMDESK mailing lists use a no-reply@emdesk.com sender?
EMDESK mailing lists use a no-reply@emdesk.com sender address to comply with modern email security standards enforced by major email providers such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
These standards (DMARC, SPF, DKIM) require strict alignment between the sending domain and the authenticated mailing infrastructure. Using a different sender domain would significantly increase the risk of emails being blocked, marked as spam, or not delivered at all.
Why can I not directly reply to the original sender?
Because the sender address is set to no-reply@emdesk.com, direct replies are intentionally disabled. This ensures reliable email delivery across all partner organisations and avoids security-related rejections by recipient mail servers.
Can the sender address be changed to a real user?
No. Changing the sender address to an individual user or external domain is not supported, as this would violate email authentication rules and negatively impact deliverability.
Is it possible to add a Reply-To address?
In some cases, we can configure Reply-To address to the original sender email address for a specific mailing list so that replies are sent to sender email address.
This is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and can be enabled for testing purposes.
Please note: If Reply-To address is set to the sender email address, EMDESK can no longer fully guarantee reliable email delivery, as acceptance then depends on the recipient mail server policies.
How can I request a Reply-To configuration?
Please contact EMDESK support and provide:
- The name of the mailing list
- The mailing list email address
Our team will review your setup and let you know whether this configuration can be enabled for your workspace.
What is the recommended way to communicate via mailing lists?
For reliable communication, we recommend:
- Using mailing lists for announcements and one-to-many communication
- Using EMDESK comments, chats, or direct emails for discussions that require replies
- Linking to tasks or documents in EMDESK where structured discussion is needed
